There are currently two main manufacturers producing high quality wireless touchpad keyboards, and they are DSI and Adesso. You probably have never heard of either one of them, but they have both been researching and developing keyboard and mouse input devices for many years. The history and main focus of each respective company is different, however when it came time to design a high-quality, durable wireless keyboard with touchpad mouse they both hit the nail on the head.
DS International (Din Shin International or DSI Keyboard) is a small, certified minority-owned firm. They are a leading designer and manufacturer of application-specific input devices for OEM use worldwide. They have developed more then 100 custom devices over the last eighteen years in various industries, with their most well-known achievements being solutions for NY Mercantile Exchange, United Parcel Service and the United States Postal Service. Their custom keyboards have the ability to fit a wide range of applications including an ergonomic keypad, financial application keyboards, and custom input terminals. Model number KB-RK-728 is what they have to offer as far as a standard wireless keyboard with a built-in touchpad mouse surface. It features the trackpad built into the right-hand portion of the keyboard, which some people seem to prefer over having the touch pad in the middle.
Adesso on the other hand is a large corporation but they also have tons of experience manufacturing computer peripherals, as well as other electronic equipment accessories like handheld barcode scanners and graphics tablets. They produce many different computer input devices in various styles and colors, and most of their products are ergonomically designed to enhance comfort and accessibility. Adesso dubbed their wireless touchpad keyboards the SlimTouch line. There is the wildly popular SlimTouch Wireless 2.4GHz Mini Touchpad Keyboard (model# WKB-4000US), then they came out with the MAC version of the same keyboard (model# WKB-4000MAC, and its white in color), and they recently released an ergo-curved model (WKB-4100UB) with the built-in touchpad on the right-hand side, which is a highly sought-after feature. The mini keyboards use four AAA batteries and the ergo model uses two AA batteries, both running off of a USB RF wireless receiver. The slimtouch mini is easy to carry around with dimensions of 11.75" x 8.25" x 0.5" (LxWxH), and the actual touchpad area dimensions are 2.8" x 1.75".
You will find a whole bunch of other wireless touchpad keyboards offered for sale online. While these may be tempting because of their lower cost, it is advised to stick to the well-known brands and models that have proven to be effective and of superior workmanship. The DSI and Adesso touchpad keyboards receive many great reviews from satisfied users and they continue to be the best sellers of this type of product.
Battery life is usually pretty good with these types of devices. As with anything else powered by batteries the amount of time they will last largely depends on how often, and for how long each time, you use the product. It is very annoying when you're in the middle of something important and realize you're running out of power, but there are indictators on most models to let you know ahead of time when they need replacing.
